Best time to visit Paris

Paris is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit Paris depends on what you want to experience. Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) are generally considered the ideal seasons for sightseeing. During these months, temperatures are pleasant, parks and gardens are at their best and visitor numbers are usually lower than during the busy summer holidays.

Spring is one of the most beautiful times to visit Paris. The city's parks, including the Luxembourg Gardens and the Tuileries Garden, are in full bloom, café terraces fill up and temperatures usually range between 15°C and 22°C (59°F–72°F). It is an excellent season for walking through neighbourhoods such as Montmartre, taking a Seine River Cruise or visiting attractions like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre Museum.

Summer (July and August) is the busiest period of the year. The weather is warm, many festivals take place and daylight lasts until late in the evening. Expect larger crowds at major attractions and book tickets for popular sights well in advance. Summer is also the perfect season for rooftop bars, evening river cruises and outdoor events.

Autumn is another excellent time for a city break. Temperatures remain comfortable, Paris museums are slightly less crowded and the city's parks turn beautiful shades of gold and red. Many travellers consider September and October to be the perfect months for exploring Paris.

Winter offers a completely different atmosphere. Christmas markets, festive decorations and illuminated shopping streets make December especially magical. Although temperatures are cooler, waiting times at many attractions are shorter outside the Christmas holidays. Winter is also an excellent season to enjoy Paris' museums, cafés and restaurants.
