The Arc de Triomphe is the best-known Triumphal Arch in Paris, France. The impressive Paris landmark may be found near the end of Avenue des Champs-Élysées, at the Charles de Gaulle traffic circle. The impressive structure can be reached through an underground pedestrian tunnel. The tunnel is located at the crossroad of Avenue des Champs-Élysées and Avenue de la Grande Armée. The entrance is marked by a descending stairway that leads to a tunnel beneath the traffic circle.

Arc de Triomphe is one of the largest Triumphal Arches in the world, standing 55 meters high and 45 meters wide. The rooftop of the structure is open to visitors and offers a spectacular view. The rooftop is accessible through a 284-step stairway (this is quite a climb) or an elevator. To enter the rooftop, an entry ticket is required.

History of the Triumphal Arch in Paris France

The Triumphal Arch of Paris was commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte in honor of the victories of his French armies. Construction of the structure began in 1806, the design was inspired by Roman Triumphal Arches. Architect Jean-François Chalgerin created the design. The construction of Arc de Triomphe took over 30 years. In Paris France, Arc de Triomphe is a symbol of military strength. In 1920, The Unknown Soldier (an unidentified fallen soldier from World War I) was buried beneath the structure. In 1923, a memorial flame was placed on his grave. The annual French Remembrance Day ceremony is held at Arc de Triomphe on May 8th.
