Visiting Opéra Garnier in Paris
The historic Opéra Garnier is located in the 9th district of Paris France. The designer of the magnificent opera house was Charles Garnier. The commission for the construction of Palais Garnier was given by Napoleon III. Palais Garnier is built in a rich Beaux-Arts style with richly decorated columns, cornices, arches, and classical statues. In 1875, the construction of the beautiful opera house was completed.
With a length of 173 meters, Palais Garnier is a large and imposing structure in Paris. The auditorium of Opéra Garnier can accommodate over 2,100 people, and 450 artists can perform on the big stage. The interior of the Paris opera house is lavishly decorated with marble, gold leaf, and beautiful wall and ceiling paintings. A 6-ton chandelier, which was designed by Charles Garnier himself, can be found in the main hall. On the ceilings of the foyer and the auditorium, you’ll see beautiful paintings.
Opéra National de Paris
Opéra National de Paris, France’s first opera and ballet company, resides at Palais Garnier. Founded in 1669, the famous opera and ballet company rose to fame under the direction of Jean-Baptiste Lully. Today, ballet performances are mostly held at Opéra Garnier.
