The Sacré-Coeur Basilica is a beautiful white basilica in Paris. The French name means Basilica of the Sacred Heart. The white church is located at the top of Montmartre Hill. The view from the Sacré-Coeur Basilica is spectacular; only the Eiffel Tower has a higher viewpoint. A stairway leads up to the the Basilica of the Sacred Heart from the foot of Montmartre Hill. It is a climb of 220 steps. Don't feel like walking? No worries; there is also a cable tram. The French name for the cable tram is Funicularie de Montmartre. With a Paris metro ticket, you can enter it for free.

History of Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris
The Sacré-Coeur Basilica of Montmartre was built between 1875 and 1914. The original architect was Paul Abadie; he died in 1884 and never saw his design completed. The construction of the Sacré-Coeur Basilica was extremely difficult, especially the foundation, which was a major challenge. A limestone called Travertine was used for the construction of the church. This is a French limestone that produces a white layer when it rains.
