Visting the Eiffel Tower in Paris
The most iconic landmarks and at top of the list of Things to do in Paris is, without a doubt, the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower is located on the Champs de Mars on the Seine River's left bank. When the Eiffel Tower was constructed, Champs de Mars was located on the outskirts of Paris. Today, the Eiffel Tower is located in the heart of Paris.
The Eiffel Tower has three levels. The highest point is 276 meters high. Visitors can access all levels; an entrance ticket is required for this. A standard ticket grants access to the first and second floors. A more extensive summit ticket is required to enter the third floor. The climb from the ground to the first floor is 300 steps. The climb from the first to the second floor is also 300 steps. The top floor is only accessible by elevator. The use of a photo or video camera is allowed in the Eiffel Tower.
History of the Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower was built between 1887 and 1889 for the World Exhibition in Paris. The structure was designed by two employees of Gustav Eiffel: Maurice Koechlin and Émile Nouguier. The Eiffel Tower has a total height of 324 meters, including the flagpole. The iron frame weighs 7,300 tons, and it is held together by 2.5 million rivets. A total of 250 steelworkers participated in its construction. The top of the Eiffel Tower responds to the influences of heat and wind. The height of La Tour Eiffel can vary up to a maximum of 18 centimeters, depending on the outside temperature, and the top moves a maximum of 12 centimeters due to the wind.
Floors of La Tour Eiffel
The Eiffel Tower has three levels. All floors and the summit are accessible to visitors:
- Ground floor: On the ground floor, you’ll find an information desk, souvenir shops, and cash registers. Almost every day, there are line-ups in front of the cash registers. Fortunately, it is possible to purchase your Eiffel Tower Tickets in advance.
- Floor 1: On the first floor, you can watch a short film about the Eiffel Tower. There is a panoramic map with the capitals of Europe and a restaurant named Madame Brasserie (fun: book a lunch in Madame Brasserie). This restaurant can be classified as a luxury brasserie. The eyecatcher on this level is the glass floor.
- Floor 2: The second floor offers its visitors a beautiful view of Paris. There is also a souvenir shop and a chic restaurant called Le Jules Verne.
- Floor 3 (summit): Top of the Eiffel Tower: The view is spectacular from the Eiffel Tower’s third floor (summit), which is its highest point. When viewed from this level, all the well-known Paris landmarks appear to be quite small. To visit the summit you have to book these tickets incl. the summit.

Where is the Eiffel Tower in Paris?
- The Paris metro is a convenient and easy way to visit the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower can be reached via Line 6 at the Bir-Hakeim stop. This stop is a short distance from the Eiffel Tower, about a 10-minute walk.
- At a distance of a 15-minute walk, there are two more metro stops: Line 8 at the École Militaire stop or Line 9 at the Trocadér stop.
